The bit about the Orange Riots, with Irish-Catholic cops being deployed against their communities of origin and starting to construct their own distinct ethnic identity as cops, is super interesting, and makes a lot of sense in this Blue Lives Matter moment. This comes up a lot in modern discourse about black police, but I had no idea cop identity politics goes back that far.
