I, Producer Jake, will take the L this. Short answer: ASAP. One issue has been, in my experience, the bigger online ones make garbage quality stuff. Our first round of AP sweaters and shirts did not last very long, so I'm hoping to get a smaller manufacturer to help us.
My AP coffee mug is still going strong, and I ordered it when they first came out. The mask is also wearing quite well, although does not get much action anymore.
We really enjoyed using Substack as well and will be sorry to leave. As we noted, there are just some more customizable features that Supporting Cast has at this time that we felt would really help us streamline and expand the show.
Supporting cast doesn't work with iTunes because the RSS is too long. Their help says they've gotten lots of complaints from iTunes users, the solution is to contact Apple. Apple says nothing they can do, they should shorten the RSS, there's no reason for it to be anywhere near this long, and made some jokes about what do they think they are, the blockchain.
I don't suppose you can get them to fix this? I already can't download the Mark Ames interview.
That's annoying, I'm so sorry that's happening. This might be because we're doing a bimodal thing right now where we still have the Substack RSS feed running with the Supporting Cast one. I'll talk to them and see if they can iron this out, but this should be resolved by Friday at the latest.
I'm glad to say you can take this off your todo list - after a week of trying the wrong things, I've found a decent workaround. But I really appreciate your response. Many thanks.
Question: how will the series (like the history of Palestine collection) be organised after the move is over? It’s very easy to navigate through them on Substack, how will that work from now on?
Hey Jay, exactly the same deal over there. We’ll have a tab with everything organized by series and also a categorized archive to go through. The interface might be a bit simpler to start, but I’m building a page comparable to this layout.
Huh. Swore I posted a couple hours back congratulating you on your new affiliation with the Graham Holdings Company but it seems to have disappeared. Maybe it's a lag thing? Maybe I'm just uncoordinated. Anyhow, was trying to say that old media + treated lumber + fossil fuel processing equipment + auto dealerships = bonafide American prestige! Nicely done. Will miss you in the feed here on Substack.
Regarding the "À la carte" and other new programming, will members who are paying subscribers have to pay for the new episodes and series? Or will they be included in a higher tier?
This is actually awesome. For example the 5 part war on Palestine series is incredible. I think you all might have made it free anyways after the genocide but it's still the perfect example of something you might want to get a non-subscriber friend to purchase and listen to as a standalone.
I googled Supporting Cast ... "Initially designed to support Slate Plus members..." haha I subscribed to Slate for a brief time 10 years ago and was erased for making negative comments about Netanyahu and his future Kahanist regime. I had the impression the comment board was infested with young hip NY liberal Zionists
I can go ahead and tweak our payment service (Stripe, which we've been using here as well) so that it's clearly "Supporting Cast." That said, you personally don't need to re-submit your card information, and all subscriptions should pick up right where they left off.
This is just like when my family moved houses when I was 6
Merch when?

👍consider coffee mugs.

This just made me realize AP is the reason I downloaded substack and I love it here now… so thanks for that :)

Excellent.
Will FX also be moving?
I have no plans to move FX at this time.

What if you signed up as a founding member? Still haven't been able to get a working rss link for that year long subscription
I'm dming you.
Thanks Jake

So for now everyone just buys the standalone series, we'll let paying subscribers know if anything changes around that, though.
I think this was a bit unclear.
Paying subscribers get *all* of our content.
The a la carte series are just for people who might want to listen to, say, our series on Vietnam without subscribing to the regular pod.
We may do more produced series in the future, a la Blowback, but no plans on that front yet.

Actually I just checked and those are still bonuses so yeah that would be a great share.
Precisely! I believe we're going to start with Vietnam and Palestine as a la carte series, and see how that goes.
Anyone have any recommendations for a podcatcher?
pocketcast is my favorite

Admin question: does this mean my credit card will have charges from a new provider? Supporting Cast?
I can go ahead and tweak our payment service (Stripe, which we've been using here as well) so that it's clearly "Supporting Cast." That said, you personally don't need to re-submit your card information, and all subscriptions should pick up right where they left off.
If you have any questions for Supporting Cast, you can reach them at help@supportingcast.fm, Substack can be reached at support@substackinc.com, and you can always reach us at amprestigepod@gmail.com.
